  2. It's hard to believe that a shop in Brisbane has Missouri Meerschaum pipes and not Chinese knock offs

  6. Ha, cool. It's amazing how the cob is the only true equalizer among pipe smokers. I've talked to, and seen on forums, the biggest pipe snobs with nothing but the best high-grade brands in their collections all admit that cobs are a great smoke. To me it is the modern clay, the only pipe that is equal to all.

I think that there needs to be a moratorium on harvesting briar for at least 50 years, close off entire sections and let prices soar. Everyone should smoke cobs, clays and local woods and only have a briar or two to their names. Briar should be the exception not the rule. Look at meer, almost farmed out of existence. Sure you need a certain amount to be produced to ensure that the next generation of carvers are there, but really how can we continue to destroy briar at our current rate and expect it to be there for future generations?

Bah, pessimistic mood, should stop ranting and be happy that I'll never pine for a pipe as I already have more than I could ever smoke away in 5 lifetimes.
