The Widow Maker

The pictures can't show how huge this drill really is.
Mr William Peter Sher (1902–1977) believed that tools imported from the United States of America were designed with 'inbuilt obsolescence'. He was determined that his products would continue to provide years of service for the home handyman

Today Lachlan came home with this in the boot/trunk of his car.
He had been to a garage/yard sale.
It is with out a doubt the biggest POWER drill i have ever seen.
It took both of us to lift it out of the car.
Australian made Sher  3/4 " heavy duty drill.
It sounds like a jet aircraft when its running and takes so long to stop.
Its in perfect working order its been kicked around a factory for a lot of years
but i don't think it's seen a lot of use probably to scared to use it.
There is a safety tag on the cord dated 1962.
I'm sure it was made pre 1950.
The bloke he bought it off said the last guy to use it
took it out of the stand mistake one.
He then tried to drill a 3/4" hole in a i beam mistake two.
The drill bit grabbed and because of the huge amount of torque this thing has
it spun out of control and the handle came round and broke his jaw.
The Widow Maker.
