Pipe Making

I  turned this pipe out of the worst briar block i have.
There are a few inclusions.

I had a spare P-Lip stem.

Wish i had of used a better block as i very happy with how this turned out.
It was more of  concept to see if the idea would work.
The briar stem is a tapered fit in to the bowl tight and sealed .
Loaded it with Bob's chocolate flake.
A nice strong full flavored tobacco.
Smoking well but it will get better when some cake has formed.
I have ordered some Church warden stems when they come i will make another.

Tobacco samples

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Bob's Chocolate Flake
This is a full flavored strong tobacco.
Just finished smoking it.
It has a mid to strong  nic hit
Full flavoured tobacco taste as far as  the chocolate goes its very faint.
But i have been smoking Macbaren Honey and Chocolate this week
its full on chocolate smell and taste.
Overall a robust smoke i will  get a tin it soon.

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake.
Nic i strong a bit to strong.
The flavour  is very full tobacco taste.
Not a tobacco i would buy.
Certainly the description sounds good and Gawith make some great tobacco's
but it's not for me.
I would like to thank Rufus for kindly sending me these samples.

Falcon Bowl turning Part 2

Spigot turned.

Nice and tight. and sealed

O ring groove turned and fitted.
Its good to put a little briar polish on the o ring to help it a bit.

Finished turning the outside.

This is by far the biggest bowl i have turned so far its huge.
I have not handled a Falcon Hyperbole but it has to be close to one.

I only use pure carnauba wax on the bowls i turn.
No need to stain as they self colour over time.

Huge tobacco chamber

The grain is great.

There are a couple of inclusions i personally don't like filler.
I think they add interest.
As all pipe makers would know its the luck of the draw.

Falcon Bowl Turning

The block is centered for maximum bowl diameter.

Action shot.
Pilot hole boring.

Falcon bowl colouring.

I don't think that staining is needed.
This briar self colours quickly.
I could see a change in a day.

Made the Bulldog 6 weeks ago.
As you can see an amazing colour change.

It's most dramatic on the bottom.

Custom Falcon Bowl.

If anyone wants a bowl just leave a comment and we can work something out.
I can also make bowls to fit the Alco and  Ronson pipes.

Very happy with the carre briar blocks from Alexander.
The grain has been nice so far.
This bowl has only a couple of the tiniest inclusions.
You have to look hard to find them.
