Great photo's! Man you got a fair way through it all. Can't believe how much gunk was in the rings, bit disturbing actually. You've got it on the road to recovery, will be great to follow it's progress.
Oh, that stem looked rank. That would have been a challenge for my handy, dandy pipe stem restorer. Can't say what's in it but it's magic. A pal gave me an old, shot to hell Kaywoodie bulldawg. He says he spent a good while sanding the stem. I put that thing in my mouth and it turned brown instantly. Fifteen minutes later it was clean and will stay that way (several months use so far with nothing to protect the surface of the stem and the stem is still black and shiny) due to chemicals I use that actually neutralize the oxygen in the sulphur in the surface of the stem. If it proves out in testing, I'll see that you fellers get some. Should know soon. This is in the second year of testing. I had a set back or two (first attempt actually dissolved some pipe stems (Dr. Grabow stems) so....back to that ole board we all hate to visit too often.
I can see why you're happy with it and you earned that happiness. Great work. That pipe is a beaut. I'm dickering for a Kaywoodie bulldawg to go with my Gefapip, GBD, Lord Algro, Medico and Dr. Grabow bent bulldawgs. Bulldawgs, pots, apples and small billies are what I like. Small billiard pipes, not small cans.:)
