This weeks Tobacco Robert McConnell Folded Flake

Spicy Flake composed of Virginia, Fired Kentucky and Perique.

Out of the tin in a solid block.
Broke some bits off a rubbed it and loaded my bent Falcon with the Calabash bowl.
Perfect moisture out of the tin.
Andrea detects  hay and sultanas in the aroma.
Easy to light and keep burning.
There's not a lot to this tobacco just pure tobacco taste.
Nice and smooth easy on the tongue.
The nicotine is mid strength.
This will be perfect to add a little of the Black XX to give it
a boost up to the level of nicotine i like.

Pipe Spotting

Inventions That Shook The World

Packing flake tobacco

Cut the flake to suit the bowl depth.
Smoking in a small bowled pipe is best.

Then I make a bundle.

Loaded in to the pipe vertically

Sprinkle any left overs on top to help get it going.

This is a Bantam sized Falcon bowl that i turned.
Just perfect for smoking flake this way.

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired

This is a great smoke.
My tin is 11 months old dated Nov 2012
The moisture level upon opening was perfect
Full flavoured and mid to strong nicotine.
It has more kick than MB Navy flake which is a favorite of mine.
MacBaren flakes are high quality and consistently perfectly cut.
Good value for a 100 gram tin.

Turned Falcon bowl

I like the shape but i'm disappointed with the inclusions.
That's the luck of the draw with briar blocks.
Some are great.

If anyone wants it i would swap for some tobacco or a metal pipe.

Black XX

I like the gears.

Looks like salami.

Virginia

It's obvious what it looks like.

I like plugs and flake tobacco's rope or twist tobacco is new to me.
I have smoked MacBaren Stockton and Roll Cake before which are cut coins
but this is a lot different.

It feels quite firm.

Cut the coins with my vintage flake cutter.

Rubbed out well i let it dry a little as its moist out of the tin.
Filled my Bantam Bulldog Falcon and fired it up.
First impressions are this is a very strong tobacco indeed.
Plenty nicotine enough to kill a horse.
The taste is full on tobacco taste very strong.
It's defiantly a sometimes tobacco if you need a quick full on nicotine hit.
Perfect for Bantam sized bowls.
I thought that Irish Cake was strong.
This is going to last a long time.

Custom Falcon bowl Bulldog

There is some very nice lava grain on the top.
As it darkens  it will start to stand out.
It all ways amazes me how dark these bowls get no need to stain them.

Sorry about the pics i 'm using different phone at the moment and the camera is bad.

Left a bit of wax in the grooves must get some new glasses,.

This bulldog has quite large tobacco chamber.

Pipe Making

I  turned this pipe out of the worst briar block i have.
There are a few inclusions.

I had a spare P-Lip stem.

Wish i had of used a better block as i very happy with how this turned out.
It was more of  concept to see if the idea would work.
The briar stem is a tapered fit in to the bowl tight and sealed .
Loaded it with Bob's chocolate flake.
A nice strong full flavored tobacco.
Smoking well but it will get better when some cake has formed.
I have ordered some Church warden stems when they come i will make another.

Tobacco samples

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Bob's Chocolate Flake
This is a full flavored strong tobacco.
Just finished smoking it.
It has a mid to strong  nic hit
Full flavoured tobacco taste as far as  the chocolate goes its very faint.
But i have been smoking Macbaren Honey and Chocolate this week
its full on chocolate smell and taste.
Overall a robust smoke i will  get a tin it soon.

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake.
Nic i strong a bit to strong.
The flavour  is very full tobacco taste.
Not a tobacco i would buy.
Certainly the description sounds good and Gawith make some great tobacco's
but it's not for me.
I would like to thank Rufus for kindly sending me these samples.
